HOW YOUR PERSONAL STORY AFFECTS YOUR EMOTIONS

What is your personal story? How do you interpret your life?
We all have our own interpretation of how we’ve experienced life. Our story is the language we use and the perspective we have about the world around us. The story we tell ourselves is told through our distortions.
YOUR PERSONAL STORY
Our story can result from our identification with people, things, or ideas. What do you identify with? Understanding what you identify with allows you to see the root of your emotions. The way we interpret our story reveals how we feel about ourselves, how we see the world, and how we create our future. Our story usually identifies where we need to heal. How are you interpreting the world around you?
THERE ARE DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF THE TRUTH
Have you ever heard the saying, “ There are 3 sides to a story?” well, it’s true; there are many truthful versions of the same facts. These different versions are not more right than the other. However, one version can make us feel worse. You have the power to choose which version of the truth. Realize that you can tell yourself a kinder interpretation of the same truthful facts.
RETELL YOUR STORY THAT CAUSES YOU TO SUFFER LESS
For example, my story was filled with rejection from people I held dear to me. I used to interpret my experiences by feeling like I wasn’t good enough for people and internalized all the rejection and felt stupid for allowing these people to treat me this way. However, now the version I choose is where I was able to gain experiences on what I want from relationships and what boundaries to set in place for future relationships. I chose the version that doesn’t cause me to suffer and allows negative thoughts and feelings to fester.
